Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have created custom skins using mods, despite warnings. Popular examples include transforming Iron Man into Dragon Ball's Vegeta, Mantis into a goth character, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Chainsaw Man's Pochita.
Last week's Season 1 update, featuring the Fantastic Four, included a hidden mod restriction: asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service, prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, hacks, and unauthorized third-party software. NetEase warned players that modding risked bans.
However, a workaround is now circulating online, requiring more steps than previous methods but still accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared the workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users, stating it circumvents anti-modding measures and carries the risk of bans, although no permanent bans have been reported to date.
New mods exploiting the Fantastic Four characters have already emerged. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy, boasting over 5,000 downloads in just two days.

The question remains: will NetEase follow through on its ban threats? While no confirmed ban cases exist yet, the workaround's prevalence may trigger further action.
NetEase's motivation for banning mods likely stems from potential revenue loss from in-game skin sales, intellectual property concerns, and the potential impact on gameplay balance and game performance. Prafit even notes that their workaround is best suited for high-performance PCs.
