Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is developing The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG aiming for Witcher 3-level quality, albeit on a smaller scale. This ambitious project, the studio's debut title, promises a high standard of polish despite its more compact scope.
A Focused Narrative Experience
In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the game's positioning. While acknowledging the smaller team and first-project status, he emphasized their commitment to AAA quality, citing The Witcher 3 as their benchmark. He addressed the potential for categorization as AA, stating that their focus is on delivering a high-quality experience, even if the overall content is less expansive than a typical AAA title.
The team, boasting extensive experience from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, formed Rebel Wolves to pursue greater creative freedom. Tomaszkiewicz anticipates a 30-40 hour main campaign, a length he argues doesn't automatically disqualify the game from AAA status, pointing to shorter AAA titles like Call of Duty as examples.
The Blood of Dawnwalker casts players as Coen, a young man unexpectedly granted vampiric abilities. His quest: to save his sister. This narrative-driven adventure unfolds in the dark fantasy world of Vale Sangora, challenging players to navigate its treacherous landscape and hostile inhabitants.
Currently slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, a gameplay reveal is planned for Summer 2025. A specific release date remains unannounced.
