inZOI's Director Unveils Plans for Karma System and Ghostly Encounters
The inZOI game director, Hyungjun Kim, recently revealed intriguing details about an upcoming Karma system that introduces a paranormal element to the game's realistic simulation of life. This system will determine whether deceased Zois transition to the afterlife or remain as ghosts.
A pivotal aspect of this system is the accumulation of Karma points. According to Kim's February 7, 2025 Discord post, Zois who perish with sufficient Karma points peacefully move on. However, those with insufficient points are destined to linger as ghosts until they accrue enough points to transcend. The specific actions required to increase Karma points remain undisclosed.
Kim emphasized that the ghostly element will be carefully balanced to avoid overshadowing the core gameplay. In the Early Access version, interactions with ghost Zois will be limited to specific times and circumstances, primarily involving unique conversations.
Kim expressed a desire to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future, suggesting that the Karma system is merely a first step in this direction. He envisions these elements adding an extra layer of intrigue and enjoyment to the game's already complex simulation of life.
A Glimpse into Karma Interactions
Krafton Inc., inZOI's publisher, collaborated with content creators in August 2024 to showcase the game. MadMorph's sponsored video offered a fleeting glimpse of the Karma Interaction system. This system presents players with a range of actions that impact their Karma score, both positively and negatively. The video showed an example of a negative action (secretly farting on another Zoi's face), while positive actions like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s Post" were mentioned but not demonstrated.
While the Early Access version (releasing on Steam March 28, 2025) focuses on the living Zois, the Karma Interaction system promises significant future implications.
