Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test, which revealed performance issues.
Lowering the GPU Barrier
Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements, particularly for the PS5's Prioritize Framerate mode, which boosts fps at the expense of some visual detail. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, with a focus on lowering the recommended GPU requirements. Currently, the minimum requirements include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would broaden the game's accessibility to players with less powerful hardware. A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess their system's compatibility.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The initial open beta (October-November 2024) highlighted significant performance issues, including low-poly models and fps drops, even on high-end PCs. Capcom acknowledged these problems, specifically mentioning a fix for afterimage noise in the final release, which they stated would be a marked improvement over the beta.
A second open beta test (February 7-10 & 14-17, 2025) is scheduled for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, featuring new monsters (Gypceros and an unannounced creature). Whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this beta remains to be seen.
The ongoing optimization efforts suggest that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch with significantly improved performance and potentially more accessible system requirements, addressing concerns raised during the initial beta testing period.
